The God who works in the Past, Present, and Forever

“For I the Lord do not change; therefore you, O children of Jacob, are not consumed.” Malachi 3:6 ESV

Have you ever had some doubts of God working in your life today. Whether it being God healing you? Or Him giving you His wisdom and knowledge? What about miracles? Do miracles still happen from the Lord, or has it ceased? There are several protestant denominations that believe that both healings and miracles have stopped after the apostles and the early church. But here is another question. If God is the same and never changes, why would He stop working in our lives in miracles, healings, prosperity, the moving of the Spirit, and giving us directions from His revelation knowledge?
According to Hebrews 13:8 (ESV), “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” We can look through the history and stories of God working miracles and healing those who were sick in the Old Testament seeing it as the past tense. We see Moses separating the Red Sea for the Israelites to escape from the Egyptians. We can read of the miracle that God kept on providing for the people while they were in the wilderness and made sure they were fed every day with manna. We can go farther to Samson who had his gift of strength that God had given to him, David who fought a giant, Daniel who survived through the night with lions, or the three boys who were thrown into the fiery furnace by Nebuchadnezzar. Each one had a supernatural gift that was given by the Almighty God. And who would ever forget the supernatural things that came to the prophets from prophesies, healing, and miracles that was poured down by God. Miracle after miracle. Healing after healing. The supernatural realm from above coming down to the natural realm.
As for the present tense, we will evaluate the miracles and miracles that happen during the time of the ministry of Jesus. Many scholars believe that thirty-seven miracles were recorded in the four Gospels. We have heard many sermons of Jesus calming the storm twice. There is also two times that Jesus provided through a miracle by feeding two different groups; one being 4000 men and another 5000 men. Do not forget that I stated men. There were also many women and children there too! We read story after story where Jesus had healed both individual persons alone and other times where he heal many people. For instance in Matthew 8:16-17 (ESV) states, “That evening they brought to him many who were oppressed by demons, and he cast out the spirits with a word and healed all who were sick. This was to fulfill what was spoken by the prophet Isaiah: “He took our illnesses and bore our diseases.” Jesus even resurrected other than himself to Lazarus, the daughter of Jairus, and the son of a widow (John 11:1-44, Luke 8:49-56, Luke 7:11-17). We can look through the scriptures of these supernatural events but according to John that there were even many more miraculously works that Jesus had done. John stated, “Now there are also many other things that Jesus did. Were every one of them to be written, I suppose that the world itself could not contain the book that would be written” (John 21:25 ESV).
God, who never change, had worked through the past of the Old Testament and worked in the present of the time of Jesus’ ministry. So, God that is the same yesterday, today, and forever is still working today in our lives. He will still heal the sick. Heal the broken hearted. Restore the wound of one’s past. Work in the supernatural intervention of miracles into the natural (which has happened to me many times). Provide for those who are in need. And move in the power of the Holy Spirit to direct you to the path of the kingdom of God.
